These are just a few words you’d hear if you asked a Washingtonian to describe Capitol Hill. But they only scratch the surface of a place so deeply rooted in the history of Washington, DC. This richly cultured community is uniquely identified by its history and a strong sense of place. While the city of Washington is constantly changing, Capitol Hill has remained true. You could even call it timeless.
Tucked away into this storied neighborhood you’ll find a building historically known as the James Buchanan School. Originally built in 1895 in the Romanesque Revival style of the late 19th century, this place of learning welcomed elementary-aged students for almost 100 years until it closed its doors in 1993. The architecture and feeling imparted mark a time of grandeur.
In 2016, Ditto Residential, a design-focused and DC-based development firm, purchased the school and began creating a vision for its future.
“This richly cultured community is uniquely identified by its history and a strong sense of place.”
The restored school is now the anchor of Buchanan Park - a thoughtful collection of townhouses, landscaped green spaces, and walkways.
A Historic School, Reimagined
Today, the Buchanan School is a collection of 41 condominium residences. Developed by Ditto Residential, the buildings have been returned to their original architectural significance through careful restoration and redesign. A sophisticated mix of old and new - classic masonry blended with modern touches.
Designed to complement its historic details while embracing a modern lifestyle, each residence features abundant natural light, soaring ceiling heights, exposed brick walls, and custom kitchens. Many have private outdoor spaces. The building includes an elevator, bicycle and package rooms, and parking. A carefully appointed grand room is a welcoming entry and a space to relax or entertain with guests.
Capitol Hill — Buchanan's Top Amenity.
Eastern Market, Lincoln Park, Barracks Row and the National Mall draw people from all over the metro area and are just steps away for the residents of Buchanan Park.
